Pass The Keys - Giving Back At Christmas

Christmas is a great time of year and we think it’s great that people take the opportunity to think of others over the festive period. Recently James Barford-Evans (our Sales Manager) was Inspired by a LinkedIn post, describing how a man in the US had decided to save up his unused toiletries for a full year and then donate them to a homeless charity. James had already read about the help Very.co.uk and Tiger gave to St Mary’s Hospital.

An idea begins...

The LinkedIn post gave James a great idea… although Pass The Keys isn’t a hotel, we do have hotel standard toiletries for our properties… and we could definitely give some away to help a good cause!

After coming into work the next morning and mentioning it to others in the office, everyone was convinced it was a great idea, after all it’s the right thing to do and who doesn’t want to do the right thing.

Who to help...

We set about finding who we could help, we were keen to help a local good cause if we could and after searching we found Whitechapel Mission. Whitechapel mission was original founded in 1876 by Henry Hill and since then it has continued to serve its core mission...

“The Whitechapel Mission is called to serve the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity.”

Whitechapel’s Mission seemed like a great one to us and we were keen to support them, also with them being based in Whitechapel they were local to our office in Moorgate and we liked the idea of helping locally where we could.

How to help...

Our original idea to donate toiletries was a great one and Whitechapel Mission’s useful donation page on their website let us know that they really needed them. We saw we could help with soap, shampoo, shower gel etc. but also noticed they were desperate for some other everyday foodstuffs and toiletries as well.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have some of the other items that Whitechapel Mission desperately needed in the office, however we had a great idea and managed to find a Sainsbury’s store nearby and set off with our toiletries from the office to find other items.

Pass The Keys – Delivers

After shopping we realised we’d gotten quite a bit and were struggling to carry it all, luckily some kind folks at Sainsbury’s let us borrow a trolley. So off we set to Whitechapel Mission.

We hope that our donation helps Whitechapel Mission and goes some way to improving the lives of homeless people in London over the Christmas and New Year Period.

Have We Inspired You?

If we’ve inspired you to give back a little this Christmas it’s easier than ever, just find something that you really care about and there will always be a. If you’re struggling to decide which charity to support, maybe try a website like Charity Choice which lets you browse through different charities and find one you’re passionate about. You can of course also donate to the White Chapel Mission as well, they deserve everyone’s help and who know first-hand that they’re grateful for any and all donations.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Pass The Keys would like to thank the staff at Whitechapel Mission and wish everyone at the Whitechapel Mission and our hosts, guests, employees and anyone reading this blog, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

... and don’t worry ... the trolley got back safely!

We returned the trolley safely to its home at Sainsbury’s on Cambridge Heath Road, which was conveniently just over the road from the mission. Thanks again to Sainsbury’s staff for saying yes to us borrowing it, it made life a lot easier.
